Photos from Lowell - Thanks Midori (or Roger)

Nice Group Shot of Marisa, Midori, Nicole, Yuko, and Amy

At some point during the photoshoot, everyone gets blocked by the pole. Here's one of the few shots where you can see us all.

Look, no pole!

Flamenco Skirt Attack

Sound Tech Derek sneaks into the shot.

Nicole and Marisa challenge each other to a standing on one foot contest.

After this is done, let's all enjoy a nice Heineken, the Official Beer of Studio 3 Flamenco.

Applause - An Update from Marisa

Nicole, Midori, Yuko, Amy, and I performed two shows at Ole Tapas on Sunday during the Lowell Folk Festival. And even the heavens were applauding by thundering above our heads. We were almost done with the final section of the Alegrias, when the heavens opened and the rain poured down upon us. There's some great video footage of us continuing to dance through the rain, until there's a moment where we all collectively get distracted and forget the next steps. That and the homeless troll guy who wandered by are a few of the video highlights from these performances. Thanks to Derek who performed yeoman's service on the sound.

Applause was raining down on Tuesday night when Midori, Amy, Yuko, and I performed for the annual City Year conference. Hundreds of young adults from all over the US were screaming, cheering, and making noise for almost anything we did on stage. A few times we couldn't even hear the music to pick up the compas. Some standing ovations at the end. I think we were all overwhelmed by the love and enthusiam shown to us. And if City Year ever asks us back, we'll be there with bells on. We don't know if they filmed it, but if they did, I'd love to get the tape and watch it whenever I'm feeling low.

Jamie and Nicole are performing at the Ole Tapas 1 Year Anniversary Celebration on August 14th at 7 and 9. Seiki will be on guitar.

Busy Times

It's been a fun few weeks here with Studio 3 Flamenco.

NEFFA on April 26th was interesting. Below is a small video of the Sevillanas we performed that day. We certainly learned a bit from that show.

1) Let the audience know that they could be yelling OLE whenever they feel like it.

2) Don't try to match costumes.

3) Hawaiian dancers get to use weapons and we should try to use more weaponry in our dance.

Harvard Square's May Fair on May 3rd was very exciting. Very different from NEFFA in that we were surrounded by a sea of faces. We gave instructions to shout out OLE, and they did. Very gratifying. And, at least one person in the audience knew something about flamenco and shook our hands when we left the stage. The only downside was that Jamie couldn't attend.

Next comes Ole Tapas on May 9th. Jamie and Amy are in the 7:00 show. Jamie and Marisa are doing the 9:00.

We're still looking for additional dance opportunities this summer.
